Early Life and Education

Abdelmalek Sellal, the current Prime Minister of Algeria, was born in 1945 in Tiaret, a city located approximately 300 kilometers from the capital city. He pursued his education in Algiers, the capital.

Early Career and Political Beginnings

After completing his studies, Sellal initially worked as a financial inspector before transitioning to a teaching role. In 1972, he joined the President's office as Deputy Director of the External Relations Department, a position he held until 1977.

Political Ascent

Sellal's political career took a significant turn in 1990 when he became the Chairman of the Algerian National Assembly. During a period of unrest caused by radical Islamist groups, he advocated for dialogue with moderate Islamists.

Ministerial Appointments and Diplomatic Experience

Following the election of Abdelaziz Bouteflika as President of Algeria, Sellal was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2000, a position he held until 2005. He later served as Minister and Personal Representative of the President.

Leadership of the National Liberation Front

In 2005, Sellal was elected as the Secretary General of the National Liberation Front (FLN), the country's ruling party. Under his leadership, the FLN's influence and popularity continued to grow.

Prime Ministership

In 2012, Sellal was appointed Prime Minister by President Bouteflika. As Prime Minister, he has implemented various economic and political reforms, including measures to combat corruption and improve the country's infrastructure.
