Edgar Brown, born in 1963 in the Bronx, New York, is an American artist, known for his work painting portraits of athletes. Edgar is a graduate of Wallington (NJ) High School’s Class of 1982.
Aside from painting some of the greatest New York Giants (NFL) players of all-time, Edgar has also had the privilege of painting Derek Jeter, Carson Wentz, Saquan Barkley, Roy Halladay, Muhammad Ali, Larry Bird, Mark Messier, Tiger Woods, and dozens of other athletes.
Edgar was inducted into the Wallington (NJ) High School Academic Hall of Fame[1] in March 2020 for his career in art.
Edgar is an artist for the Deacon Jones Foundation, which raises money for underprivileged children seeking art scholarships. His artwork has been licensed by the NFL and has been featured in the Beckett publication. Edgar’s artwork has appeared on five episodes of the HBO series The Sopranos.
The Hambletonian Society and the Meadowlands Racetrack named Edgar as the 1994 Cadillac Hambletonian Artist of the Year. Edgar was chosen again in 1996. The Hambletonian is the most prestigious race in harness racing. Edgar was tasked with creating a painting that was to be used for posters, program covers, and lithographs commemorating the event. LeRoy Neiman was the 1995 Cadillac Hambletonian Artist of the Year. The original painting from 1994 hangs in the Meadowlands Racetrack.
Edgar’s art is listed in the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, OH; the Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, OK; and the ITA The Women’s Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame[2] in Williamsburg, VA.
Edgar was interviewed on CBS’s “Giants Today” in 1992.
