International Career
José Saturnino Cardozo is the all-time top scorer for the Paraguay national team, with 25 goals. He was also the top scorer in the Mexican championship four times. In 2002, he was named South American Footballer of the Year and, in 2003, he was recognized by FIFA as the world's leading goalscorer with 58 goals for the year.
Cardozo participated in the 2004 Olympic Games as an over-23 player. Paraguay reached the final but lost to Argentina. He participated twice in the World Cups, in 1998 and 2002. He was also included in the squad for the 2006 World Cup but had to give up his place to Dante López due to injury.
Club Career
José Saturnino Cardozo is the all-time top scorer in the history of the Toluca club in Mexico. In 2006, Cardozo returned to Paraguay, but the transfer window had already closed, so he could not be registered with Olimpia. For this reason, he decided to end his football career.
In the 2006/2007 season, he began his coaching career, becoming head coach of Olympia Asunción.
