Baritone JOSE VAZQUEZ began vocal training with PMI's Director/Voice Instructor  Oscar Diaz, Jr. at the age of 15 years old. On his recent leading dual-rule performance of the PROPHET/KING in DARK SISTERS by N. Muhly -a South Florida premiere with the Miami Classical Music Festival- he received rave reviews.  Also on that evening he was featured as Jose Tripaldi in the opera AINADAMAR by O. Golijov.

Lawrence Budmen of the South Florida CLASSICAL REVIEW wrote the following review about his performances:

Video below is a live recording of  Baritone JOSE VAZQUEZ singing at a recent (June 8th, ) PMI Student Voice Recital.

The video’s soundtrack is of Mr. Vazquez singing a snippet of “Junto al puente de la peña” from the zarzuela LA CANCION DEL OLVIDO composed by J. Serrano.

While still in high school Mr. Vazquez won numerous 1st place Voice Awards from the Miami Music Teachers Association & a 3rd place at the local Classical Singer’s Voice Competition. He then furthered his studies at the prestigious Cleveland Institute of Music and later attained a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Miami Frost School of Music.  Presently Mr. Vazquez continues gaining accolades & accomplishments in both the world of musical theatre & opera.  Besides those already listed above other accomplishments have also included singing in the role of Papageno in a New York Lyric Opera  production of Die Zauberflote (The Magic Flute), call-backs for professional level musical theatre productions in MAN OF LA MANCHA and an engagement for EVITA.

For the season there are professional opera chorus engagements with the Palm Beach Opera & Florida Grand Opera in Puccini’s TURANDOT, Rossini’s IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA & Verdi's RIGOLETTO.

Jose Vazquez's TESTIMONIAL/Endorsement of training at PMI -with Oscar Diaz, Jr.:

"If you are looking for high quality voice lessons in the greater Miami area, then look no further. Oscar Diaz of the Performer’s Music Institute is easily one of the most qualified and learned teachers in South Florida. I have studied with him for approximately 4 years and I have seen many of his students (some who have studied with him for 20+ years) in concert. Oscar’s grasp of the vocal instrument and his understanding of vocal technique, and his ability to drill that very same understanding into your own head with regular vocalizations and very specific repertoire work is incredible. He focuses on quality over quantity, making sure that all the rep you learn, every phrase, note, and syllable sits somewhere comfortably in your voice, where you can be heard without straining, and you can sing notes and feel like you never need to stop singing. I highly recommend at least reaching out, because you never know where his advice might take you, and with as much experience as he has in the world of opera (especially in Miami), it usually does best to listen"    -Jose Vazquez, (Baritone)

He was ultimately successful in being accepted into the UCF's school of music vocal performance program and received the following comments regarding his audition from the UCF faculty:

"Your voice shows great promise and you were among the most expressive singers we have heard this year. Your acting instincts are great and musicality is very high as well"

He is multi-faceted & is comfortable in different styles including popular music, musical theatre & classical.

Brian Inerfeld's TESTIMONIAL/Endorsement of training at PMI -with Oscar Diaz, Jr.

"I have been taking lessons from Oscar for only about four months now and the only word I can think of to properly describe the experience is “wow!” You can not find a more dedicated mentor to teach you about your instrument! He genuinely takes each and every student he teaches under his wing and while he does not tend to sugar coat any of his comments and critiques, that is by far his best quality to me. He really goes note by note ensuring you are using your voice safely and the sound is as good as it can be! He tells you as it is and works you tirelessly to get the most perfect sound you can get! It may be tiring but the work is far worth the reward. If you want to improve and learn a great amount about your voice I STRONGLY recommend Oscar Diaz to any aspiring vocalist out there. He is truly amazing!"      -Brian Inerfeld (Tenor)

Soprano BLES CHAVEZ-BERNSTEIN is a performing artist & also a renowned author who dubs herself as "The Singing Poet".  She is known for her deep sense of expression and also for her unusual ability to effectively connect the different art forms and disciplines which have influenced her in her life. She is all at once an author, a singer, and also a scholar. She has performed all over the world meanwhile always uniting & sharing her love of multiple art forms.

Bles Chavez-Bernstein's TESTIMONIAL/Endorsement of training at PMI -with Oscar Diaz, Jr.:

"There is so much to say about Oscar as a unique artist, a devoted teacher, a master voice "builder", and a kind person, but this space is not enough for me to write everything so I will focus on him as a voice teacher. I started voice lessons with him not as the typical high school graduate looking to build a professional career in the field of opera but as a healthcare professional who only wanted to sing classical music well. After a few years of training with him I ended up being accepted in a local conservatory with a scholarship grant in a college program, major in music and vocal performance. I loved singing all my life that I was willing to do what it took to achieve the "excellence" I always dreamed of. My path was far from easy as I had to work the night shift in order to attend school during the day. I also had my share of vocal faults due to fatigue and stress from a demanding schedule. Oscar helped me through all these difficulties and never gave up on me. He probably saw how much I loved singingnot just singing, but excellent singing. After a few years of studies at the conservatory I had to move overseas and despite the major disruption from my move I continued to sing at every opportunity I was given. I still live abroad but every time I return to the US I take lessons from Oscar to make sure my voice stays on the right track. Looking back to the past few years, I believe I have come a long way. I have done solo concerts both in the US and abroad and continue to receive invitations to perform on stage. Miracles can happen that, I believe. I am grateful for not only the strong foundation Oscar has built in my singing voice but also for the inspiration he always evokes"
